inspirational leader to serve as its next Vice Chancellor for
Advancement (herein VC). As the chief advancement officer for the
UCI campus and medical center, the VC will direct all development
strategies, lead development officers at both the central and unit
levels, and will be in charge of successfully completing the
University’s current $1 billion Shaping the Future campaign.
Enrolling roughly 28,000 students, UCI is ranked 11th among the
nation’s best public universities and 41st among all national public
and private universities, according to U.S. News & World Report. The
University combines the strengths of a major research institution with
the bounty of an incomparable Southern California location.
Increasingly a first-choice campus for students, UCI is recognized as
one of the top U.S. universities in the number of undergraduate
applications and continues to admit freshmen with highly competitive
academic profiles. Three UCI researchers have won Nobel Prizes —
two in chemistry and one in physics. The University has invested
$129 million in capital construction projects, with additional upgrades
in the planning stages. In 2009-2010, private giving to UCI reached

The Vice Chancellor will be an astute consensus-builder who reports
to and works in collaboration with the Chancellor to produce
impressive and sustainable support for the University from alumni
and friends. S/he will have significant experience in working within a
development operation of similar size and scale to that of UCI, and
will be capable of articulating and executing a plan to introduce best
practices essential to a first-class fundraising operation. S/he will lead
a cohesive and productive team, comprised of the deans and
development professionals across UCI to secure transformational,
major, planned, corporate and foundation gifts for the University and
its schools and units.

Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement,
the Executive Director of Development is a key senior position
that will be responsible for strategic planning to design and
implement strategies to maximize fundraising objectives for
alumni, non alumnae corporations and foundations.
Responsible for soliciting major and principal gifts ranging from
$25,000 - $1,000,000 plus. Monitors all contacts related to
these donors to ensure that moves are strategic to advance the
objective. Plans the strategies for the approach to corporations
and foundations for gifts and grants. Helps to design and
recommend specific programming for major and principal gift
prospects. Supervises operational areas as necessary.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to Fundraising,
Strategic Planning, and Management.
Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree desired) minimum
4 years related experience in management as well as successful
fundraising track record. Must have analytical and excellent
communication skills in addition to strong proposal writing.

Missouri University of Science and Technology, one of four
campuses of the University of Missouri System, invites nominations
and applications for the position of Vice Chancellor for University
Advancement.
Founded in 1870, Missouri S&T is one of the premier technological
land-grant universities. Missouri S&T is a Carnegie Research
University (high research activity, doctorial, STEM dominant) with
well-established and growing research programs in engineering
and science. The University offers baccalaureate through doctoral
programs in engineering, the physical sciences, mathematics, and
computer science; and baccalaureate degrees in the humanities,
natural sciences and social sciences disciplines. In addition, masters
degree programs are offered at various off-campus sites throughout
the state and nation. The university enrolls over 7,100 students.
Missouri S&T just completed its second capital campaign,
launched in 2003 with a goal of $200 million. The total funds
raised exceeded $211 million. The campus is currently in the
planning phase for a third campaign. Missouri S&T enjoys the
support of over 50,000 alumni who are organized in 63 chapters
throughout the world. During the University’s second major capital
campaign, 35 percent of all alumni were donors to the campaign.
The candidate for Vice Chancellor for University Advancement
must possess progressively responsible administrative experience
in development and fund raising, including a strong background in
planning and executing capital campaigns, managing professional
staff, working closely with faculty, and soliciting major gifts. The
candidate must also have knowledge of various planned charitable
gifts, including bequests, living trusts, annuity trusts, charitable
remainder and charitable lead trusts, and pooled income funds,
and know how to utilize these instruments to develop an
optimal charitable giving strategy for donors. The candidate must
demonstrate proven ability to build and sustain relationships with
prospective donors and to initiate personal contacts with friends
and supporters of the university. The candidate should also be
an excellent communicator who is able to clearly represent the
mission and programs of the university.
A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is
preferred. Appropriate experience and performance can be
rewarded with superior compensation. Application screening
