2 • THE CHRONICLE OF PHILANTHROPY
DECEMBER 2, 2010
Funders are
Listening
Nonprofits hear from their funders every day about what is going well and what
can be improved. But what about funders? How do they learn and improve?
Over the past four years,143 institutions have turned the
tables on assessment by getting candid, comparative
feedback from the nonprofits they fund through the Center
for Effective Philanthropy’s Grantee Perception Report®.
Over 52,000 grantees have provided their perspectives
through confidential surveys — and funders are changing
and improving as a result.
The Grantee Perception Report® is a management tool
that provides foundation CEOs, boards, and staff with
comparative data on grantee perceptions of their founda-
tion’s performance on a variety of dimensions. It is based
on a comprehensive survey of grantees covering issues
such as interactions during the grant, the application and
reporting processes, and perceived foundation impact.
Join the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, The Boston Foundation,
and other funders in the next round of surveys. Express
interest by December 21, 2010. For more information,

The Center for Effective Philanthropy is a nonprofit organization that provides data and creates insight so philanthropic funders can better define, assess, and improve
their effectiveness and impact.
The Center for Effective Philanthropy thanks these organizations for their commitment to hearing
from those they fund and their grantees for the time and thought they have put into their responses.
