American Greenways Program,
sponsored by the Conservation Fund,
the National Geographic Society, and
Kodak. The program provides small
grants for the planning and design of
community “greenways”—corridors of
protected public and private land es-
tablished along rivers, stream valleys,
ridges, abandoned rail corridors, ca-
nals, scenic roads, or other linear topo-
graphic features. It is expected that
up to fifty percent of the grants will be
awarded to projects that demonstrate
the convergence of economic prosper-
ity and the environment. Most grants
range from $500 to $1,000 each. The
maximum grant is $2,500. Additional
