EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The San Diego Foundation seeks a Senior Vice President/Executive Director for its newly created Malin
Burnham Center for Civic Engagement. Since 1975, the San Diego Foundation has worked to improve the
quality of life in San Diego’s communities by providing leadership for effective philanthropy, building
enduring assets and promoting community solutions through research, public dialogue and focused action to
advance the common good.
Over the years, the Foundation has granted more than $750M to critical not-for-profit organizations in the
region. Today, over 1600 individuals, families and corporations house their philanthropic funds at the
Foundation. With more than $560M in assets, The Foundation grants about $40M-$60M annually to
organizations across the region.
The Malin Burnham Center for Civic Engagement will conduct research and policy dialogues, train leaders
and mobilize government, business, philanthropy, academia, and the media as to work together on our most
pressing regional challenges.
The Center is envisioned as one of the world’s leading ‘centers of excellence’ on philanthropy, social
responsibility and effective civic engagement, inspiring others to give and do. The Center will serve as a
gathering place for San Diegans to work together and facilitate positive social change.
The Executive Director will work with partners from all sectors to effect measurable positive results in the
important areas of community life. Reporting to the President, and with a staff of 15, he or she will provide
leadership, management and overall direction to The Center’s grant-making, community programs, and
special projects. This will include strategic planning, program development and policy direction.
The Foundation is seeking candidates with a strong record of achievement in civic engagement which
includes experience in a private or community foundation, or in a senior management position of a large
nonprofit or for-profit organization. The most competitive candidates will bring strong leadership and
organizational skills and an ability to foster collaboration among diverse constituencies.
Candidates should have knowledge of the range of issues facing urban, suburban and semi-rural
communities and have demonstrated success in fund development, and in attracting funds from foundation
and corporate grantors as well as from individual donors.

The University of Rio Grande seeks a Vice President for Institutional Advancement to join a
transformational team of leaders and trustees in implementing the aggressive and visionary goals
of its recently completed ten-year strategic plan, Decade of Dreams. The University of Rio Grande/
Rio Grande Community College is a unique partnership between a public community college and
a four-year comprehensive university. Deeply rooted in Appalachian history, both institutions are
committed to encouraging lifelong learning, personal and professional growth, critical thinking
and problem-solving skills and effective written and oral communication skills to students from
the southeastern Ohio area, the state, the nation and the world. The campus of the university and
community college is nestled in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio, and is adjacent to the original
Bob Evans Farms and Homestead in Rio Grande.
The Vice President for Institutional Advancement serves as the chief fundraiser for the University,
working closely with the President, trustees and staff on annual funds/giving, capital campaigns,
alumni relations, planned giving, major gifts, temporarily and permanently restricted gifts
and endowment management. The Vice President will work to support the goals of the recently
completed ten-year strategic plan, Decade of Dreams – located on the front page of www.rio.
edu. Due to its partnership, the Vice President will also work closely with Rio Grande Community
College trustees and stakeholders. One President serves both institutions. The Vice President will
serve as a member of the President’s Executive Staff which includes the Provost, Vice President for
Administration/Chief Operating Officer, and the Vice President for Finance/Chief Financial Officer.
